William Darnell – Founder of Saved2Serve

William Darnell is the founder of Saved2Serve, a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving individuals in need, both locally and internationally. His journey into service began in December 2013, during a mission trip to Alajuelita, Costa Rica, one of the country’s most poverty-stricken cities. It was there that William, along with his wife Candiss and their daughter, was deeply moved by the community outreach events they participated in. The experience ignited a passion to help others, not only overseas but right in their own local communities.

Upon returning to the U.S., William and his family began making meals and distributing them from their vehicle, initially serving 50 meals. This small act of kindness quickly grew into a regular, life-changing outreach. Over the past 9+ years, Saved2Serve has grown exponentially, now providing 1,200 meals each month along with essential items such as clothing, shoes, and hygiene products. Their bi-weekly Street Friend Outreach events reach those who are often overlooked, offering love, support, and tangible resources to homeless individuals in Duval, Clay, Nassau, and St. Johns counties.

A defining moment in Saved2Serve‘s evolution came when William noticed a gap in services for people transitioning off the streets. While many individuals were thrilled to secure housing, they often lacked basic household items like furniture and food. In response, William and his team began helping not just with meals and hygiene items but also with essential home furnishings for those moving into permanent housing. This service extends not only to street friends but also to veterans and individuals in recovery. For William, this work isn’t just about providing physical resources—it’s about offering hope and a fresh start.

Despite the challenges along the way, William’s faith and trust in God have been unwavering. His ministry has always been guided by the principle of obedience to God’s calling, with a focus on love and service rather than efficiency or recognition. “It’s less about us, and more about Him,” William says.

A key to Saved2Serve’s success has been the unwavering support of William’s wife, Candiss, who has been an instrumental force behind the organization from the very beginning. William credits Candiss as the “backbone” of the ministry, and without her, Saved2Serve would not be what it is today. He also acknowledges the contributions of other key figures in his life, including his mother, Linda Gloria, his mentor Pastor Tone Benedict, and Momma Audrey Turner, whose unwavering faith and love for others continue to inspire him. Finally, William expresses deep gratitude for the core team of volunteers and supporters who have been with Saved2Serve from the start, without whom the organization could not continue its mission.

Through Saved2Serve, William Darnell has dedicated his life to helping others experience the love, dignity, and support they deserve. His work stands as a testament to the power of faith, community, and the tangible impact of selfless service.
